Family at Christmas and the meaning of Christmas…
As Christmas draws near we are reminded of the importance of family and friends and not forgetting that Christmas is all about the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The Christmas story in the Bible can be found in a couple of different places mainly Matthew 1:18-23 and Luke 1:26-40. Although the word Christmas is never used in the scriptures the word itself means “Christ’s Mass”, a day (and Season) to remember the birth of Jesus. It is also how the birth of God's son - Jesus came to give us love, hope and joy. That message doesn’t change from year to year.
Where there is so much bad news and devastation in the world, this is good news worth remembering and celebrating with family and loved ones. Having family and friends to share time and space with is a blessing from God. He created us to be in community with one another, cherish the moments of laughter, fun and fellowship with each other.
So while I will be decorating the tree and the home I’ll do so with a heart filled with gratitude towards God. Our hearts can rest in the assurance that we have the great gift of eternal life and victory while still on this earth. This is all because Jesus was born on this earth with the sole purpose of saving us. What a privilege to be loved and known by him.
Happy Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.
